Project: “Samueli Sports” Large-Area Lighting System

Location: San Diego, California (recreational and sports complex)

Concept and Design

The project focuses on maximizing light output while maintaining a technical, industrial aesthetic. The tall masts are equipped with modular lighting crowns that allow for precise directional control of the light beam onto the field or court, minimizing glare in adjacent areas. The austere, gray color scheme of the masts harmonizes with the modern architecture of the campus and the blue of the California sky.

Functionality and Adaptability

Precision Optics: The use of multiple independent LED modules on a single pole enables uniform illumination of large areas, which is crucial for the safety and comfort of sports facility users.

Integrated Control System: The masts are equipped with external control cabinets at the base, which facilitates maintenance and allows for intelligent management of light intensity depending on the time of day or the schedule of activities.

Structural Durability: The galvanized steel construction of the masts ensures stability in strong winds and resistance to oxidation in conditions of high sunlight exposure.
